President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, has broken her silence on the death of Albert Ojwang, a youthful teacher who lost his life while in custody at Central Police Station, Nairobi.
Taking to her official X account in the wee hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, Charlene revealed that she had requested the 106 young leaders present at this week’s cohort on leadership conversations to stand with her and observe one minute of silence for the life of Ojwang.
She went ahead to state that she has struggled with deep moments of reflection for the past few days to try and find context around what happened.
“As we concluded this week’s cohort on leadership conversations, I requested the 106 young leaders present to stand with me and observe one minute of silence for the life of Albert Ojwang. I have struggled with deep moments of reflection for the past few days to try and find context around what happened,” Charlene stated.
Charlene on Ojwang’s death
She went ahead to describe Ojwang’s death as a painful, unfortunate, and overwhelming loss.
Moreover, Charlene took the moment to challenge the entire country to embrace what she termed ‘generational ceasefire’, noting that the regrettable incidents, extremism, and growing intolerance being witnessed should challenge the nation to interrogate the environment and culture people want to live in and create for the next generations.
“This is a painful, unfortunate, and overwhelming loss, and we share our deepest condolences to his family. As a young Kenyan- I would also like to challenge the entire country to embrace A GENERATIONAL CEASEFIRE! These regrettable incidents, extremity and growing intolerance should challenge all of us as a nation to interrogate the environment and culture we want to live in and create for the generations coming after us,” Charlene wrote on X.

Ojwang’s death
Ojwang’, a resident of Lida Centre in Homa Bay, was arrested on June 7, 2025, by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following claims that he was linked to an X (formerly Twitter) account accused of spreading false and malicious information targeting Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat.
He was taken to Mawego police station and then later booked at Nairobi’s Central police station at 9.31 pm.
The following day, police reported that Ojwang had died after being rushed to Mbagathi Hospital.
A postmortem conducted on Wednesday, June 10, 2025, ruled out suicide, citing the cause of death as head injury due to blunt force trauma, neck compression, and multiple subcutaneous bruises across the body.
