Popular gospel artist Ben Githae has officially announced that he will stop producing political campaign songs.
Known for creating politically affiliated songs that went viral in support of his favourite candidates, Githae has now made a sharp U‑turn.
Taking to his official Facebook account on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Githae, famously known for his 2017 campaign anthem ‘Tano Tena’, stated that he is stepping away from political music and will no longer release campaign or partisan songs for any politician ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In addition, the veteran musician thanked his fans for their overwhelmingly positive reception and acceptance of his decision to return to ministry service to God.
“It is now official! No more political songs! “Ooh help, God,” he announced.
“Wapendwa, before I sleep, I would like to appreciate you for a very positive reception and acceptance of my new decision to be back in the ministry of service to God.”

Political songs
This announcement comes days after he composed a song praising Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
The song dubbed ‘Kindiki ni witu’ was launched on May 23, 2025, during a meeting between Mt Kenya artistes and Kindiki at his Karen home to discuss issues affecting the industry.
In the song he sang in Kikuyu, he said Kindiki is their own, describing him as a good, humble leader from the mountain whom people love. He added that Kindiki will look after the coffee and tea sectors and protect both farmers and learners.
“Kindiki is ours; we will not leave him by the roadside. A good leader, a humble leader. A leader from the mountain and one we love. He will look after the coffee and tea. He will protect our farmers and our learners,” the singer said in some of his verses.
The song comes months after composing a political song, ‘Nyakati za wasalizi’ during the impeachment motion of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In his song, the renowned vocalist spoke of betrayal and, without mentioning names, he seemingly likened the ongoing political tensions to the scripture where Judas betrayed Jesus.
“Tuko nyakati zile za wasaliti, upande upande ni wasaliti, uadilifu, uaminifu, zimetupa vipaji za wasaliti, mungu tupee hekima tuwatambue wasaliti,” he sang.
In November 2021, he composed a new tune for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, who was vying for the presidency. The song ‘Baba tosha‘ was a remix of his first viral political song.
His first political song that went viral was released on May 14, 2017, dubbed ‘Tano Tena’, a song which he composed in support of the candidature of the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta and his then deputy William Ruto.
