Albert Ojwang: IG Douglas Kanja reveals the message he wrote late bloga about Dig Lagat on x

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has revealed a special social networking post that launched a series of incidents that led to the arrest and death of blogger Albert Ojwang ‘.

The post, which was shared in Ojwang’s X account, allegedly had a serious allegation of corruption against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat.

Speaking before the Senate on Tuesday, June 10, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the post claimed that Lagat had planned an operation to place his credible officers in key leadership positions within the police service.

“In particular, the statement claimed that Mr Eliud Lagat deliberately appointed his loyal officials to manage desks DCIOccurrence Book, and traffic forms to control the income and flow of intelligence information,Kanja told the Senate.

He said the allegations raised serious concern for the public and deserved to be investigated under the 2018 computer and online crime law.

In addition, Kanja revealed that another post involved Lagat and Nairobi Commander, Joseph Chirchir, involving a large real estate deal (Real Estate).

The post included a Lagat image as well as a text claiming that the Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) was investigating him.

“The EACC is investigating a senior officer after buying a $ 2.6 million house in Dubai,” wrote the post with a picture of DIG and the words ‘Eliud Lagat – Mafia Police’, As quoted in the case.

According to the Keeper, the publications were naming, evidence, and dangerous, especially considering that the Ojwang ‘account had 13,400 followers.

Dig Lagat officially filed a complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) on June 4, and an online criminal investigation was launched.

How did the police capture Ojwang ‘?

The DCI investigative squad led by senior police chief, Hillary Mutai, was immediately appointed.

Investigators sought assistance from the EACC to confirm whether Lagat was being investigated, as well as contacted the Kenya Communications Authority (CA) for digital investigation.

By Thursday, June 5, the EACC confirmed in writing that Lagat was not being investigated for any allegations of corruption.

At the same time, the CA confirmed that the involved X account had distributed similar content through the user network.

The digital investigation led police to Kevin Moinde, who was arrested in Kisii County.

During the interview, Moinde mentioned four other people including Ojwang ‘, Dorcas Mawia, Douglas Marigiri and Peter Mbugua as contributors to the publications.

“Kevin reported and exposed the participation of four other people as well as revealing the names of their X accounts,” Kanja explained.

JACKOYAH REMOVES DIG LAGAT

Roots Party Leader, George Wajackoyahhe initially called for a suspension immediately to Lagat, questioning why Lagat – who is the complainant – was allowed to stand near IG Kanja at a police meeting.

He said that Lagat’s presence could affect the investigation, and he stressed that all Officers involved in Ojwang ‘in their arrest should be identified and suspended.

The Jackoyah also mentioned international examples questioning whether Ojwang ‘was told his rights during his arrest.
