Retired US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are celebrating their youngest daughter, Sasha, as she turns 24.

On June 10, 2025, both proud parents took to their respective Instagram pages to share touching birthday wishes for Sasha, expressing deep love and admiration as she continues to grow into adulthood.

Barack Obama described watching Sasha grow as a true gift and shared how proud he is of the woman she has become.

“Happy birthday, Sasha! Watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift. I’ll always be proud of you and will always be here for you,” Obama penned.

Michelle Obama echoed these sentiments, saying she could not believe how quickly time had flown and called Sasha her sweet girl, adding how proud she is of who her daughter has become.

“Happy birthday to my sweet girl, Sasha! Can’t believe how quickly time has flown. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become. Love you always!” Michelle wrote.

Sasha, whose full name is Natasha Marian Obama, was born on June 10, 2001. She was just seven years old when her family moved into the White House after her father was elected president in 2008. She spent most of her childhood under the spotlight but has grown up largely out of the public eye in recent years.

Sasha completed her high school education in Washington, D.C., graduating in 2019, two years after her father left office. She began her college education at the University of Michigan but later transferred to the University of Southern California (USC), where she continued her studies.

Her birthday celebration comes just a few weeks ahead of her older sister Malia’s birthday, which falls on July 4.

Divorce speculations

The birthday celebration comes weeks after Michelle addressed public speculation about her marriage. There had been rumours circulating, fueled by her absence at several major public events attended by Barack Obama, including Donald Trump’s inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.

Speaking on the Work in Progress podcast hosted by actress Sophia Bush, Michelle dismissed the rumours, making it clear that she is simply choosing to prioritise her well-being and manage her schedule independently.

She explained that many people found it hard to believe she was making personal decisions for herself and instead assumed there were issues in her marriage. Michelle admitted she felt some guilt for stepping away from certain duties, noting that women often feel pressure not to disappoint others.

She emphasised that her decisions were about doing what was best for herself, not based on expectations or obligations. Although she is more selective with her time, Michelle said she still actively gives speeches, works on global projects, and remains deeply committed to causes like girls’ education.

“That’s the thing that we as women, I think, we struggle with, like disappointing people,” she said.

“I mean, so much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was choosing myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing. This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that’s what society does to us,” the former First Lady added.

The Obamas celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in October last year.
