Nairobi – Former police spokesman Charles Owino has questioned the official statement of the national police service on the death of blogger and teacher Albert Omondi Ojwang.

The young blogger was diagnosed with serious head injuries while in detention at Nairobi police station.
Ojwang, who was working as a teacher in Voi, had traveled to Migori to visit the family when officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) were allegedly arrested for publishing false information online about a chief police officer.
From Homa Bay, Ojwang was reported to be taken to Nairobi and detained at the Police Station on Saturday, June 7.
The next day, his father was informed that Albert had been rushed to Mbagathi hospital after suffering injuries in his cell. He was declared dead when he arrived.
Why did Charles Owino question the official police statement?
During an interview with Ramogi TV on Monday, June 9, Owino said the public deserves a clear response to what happened, especially due to the question of Ojwang’s death.
He questioned how the authorities could claim the boy knocked his head on the wall if, as the police said, he was alone in the cells at the time.
Owino added that such claims, without any witnesses or evidence such as CCTV images, only lift the red flag.
“What happened is very bad and disturbing, we want them to do a better investigation. What was bothering us was that we heard someone saying he had hit his head on the wall. So we were wondering this cell, we are told he is alone.
If he was alone in the cell, who saw him knocking on his head on the wall? If it is true, someone said he hit his head, then they were the ones who destroyed this case more than anyone else. If he had other colleagues, they would support the story. There are questions that must be answered, ” Said the former spokesman.

Who might have attacked Albert Ojwang?
Owino also pressed to be explained if the Police Station had diagnostic systems that could indicate who entered the cells that night.

The former police spokesman said that if anyone entered the cell at night, then he would be Ojwang’s killer.
“I don’t know if the Central Police Station has CCTV to find out someone has entered this cell at night. Because if we find someone has entered the cell at night then that is the one who killed the boy,” he added.
When did Albert Ojwang die?
In a report related to it, investigators reported that Ojwang was detained at Nairobi Police Station at 2:35 am and died more than an hour later at 3:45 am, according to the center’s book book.
They said his body had head injuries, swelling and bruises, and that blood -stained clothes, including black tops and white crocs, as well as a blue sweater, jar, glass and cups were found in cells, with blood spread to the walls and floors.
IPOA said it had suspended six officers, initiated an investigation and was inspecting CCTV images from eight cameras to reorganize its last clock.
