Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia has suggested a sinister connection between Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Kipkoech Lagat and controversial remarks made by Daadab MP Farah Maalim.
In an X post, on Monday, June 9, 2025, Methu referenced Maalim’s shocking 2024 statement, where he claimed that, if president, he would kill 5,000 Gen Zs for protesting against the government.
“When Farah Maalim has a slip of the tongue that the government should kill 5,000 Genzs, it looked like a joke. But from the command of the man appearing below, DIG Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, he might have heard that comment from somewhere…” Methu wrote.
Methu’s post, dripping with insinuation, stops short of directly accusing Lagat but hints that the DIG’s actions or influence might align with Maalim’s inflammatory rhetoric.
Brutality concerns
Maalim’s remarks, made in July 2024, had already landed him in hot water. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned him for inciting violence, and his Wiper party expelled him for defying its principles. However, Maalim dismissed the video as “doctored,” claiming he meant deaths on a single protest day.

Lagat, sworn in as DIG in July 2024, has been under scrutiny for his handling of police operations, including the Albert Ojwang case.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja confirmed Ojwang’s arrest stemmed from Lagat’s complaint about reputational harm over social media posts, a move many view as excessive. Ojwang’s death after his transfer to Nairobi’s Central Police Station has fuelled allegations of police brutality.
Methu’s post amplifies these concerns, suggesting a pattern of aggression against dissenters, particularly young Kenyans. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), led by Ahmed Issack Hassan, has warned acting officers.
“We also want to warn those who will be appointed to act in their places to cooperate with the investigators and not to interfere with the investigation,” Issack said.
