Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has confirmed that the teenage girl who was kidnapped three days ago in Yatya, Baringo North Sub-County, has been found safe and is now being reunited with her family.
In a statement shared via his official X account on Sunday, June 8, 2025, Murkomen expressed his relief and appreciation for the successful rescue operation, congratulating security teams at the national, regional, and local levels for their coordinated efforts.
He singled out Naudo Location Chief Mr. Japheth Pakka, local elders, and security officers, including the National Police Reservists (NPR), for their crucial roles in the operation.
Murkomen also acknowledged the invaluable support and cooperation of the two communities in the area, which played a significant role in locating and rescuing the girl.
“I am pleased to report that a teenage girl who was kidnapped in Yatya, Baringo North Sub-County, three days ago has been found safe and is on her way to be reunited with her family,” Murkomen stated.

“I congratulate our security teams at the national, regional and local levels for a well-coordinated operation. I particularly wish to laud the Naudo Location Chief, Japheth Pakka, for a job well done, together with local elders and security officers, including NPR. I appreciate the two communities in the area for their invaluable support and cooperation.”
The CS went on to state that the National Police Service would pursue the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice, adding that he had directed officers in Baringo North and Tiaty Central Sub-Counties, under the leadership of the County Commissioner, to organise a community meeting aimed at resolving the underlying issues that allegedly led to the kidnapping.
“Our National Police Service will pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice. I have also directed our officers in Baringo North and Tiaty Central Sub-Counties under the leadership of the County Commissioner to organise a community meeting to resolve the underlying issues that allegedly led to this terrifying crime,” he added.
Psychosocial support
Murkomen also noted that, considering the trauma the girl and her brother, who had earlier escaped the kidnappers, went through, the government had arranged for psychosocial support for them.
He added that, with the family’s consent, they had also offered to take the siblings to a boarding school outside their home sub-county where they could feel safe and continue their education in peace.
“Considering the trauma that the girl and her brother (who escaped the kidnappers earlier) underwent, we have arranged for psychosocial support for them and if the family allows, we have offered to take them to a boarding school outside their home sub-county where they will feel safe and at peace to pursue their education,” Murkomen stated.
