President William Ruto on Sunday, June 8, 2025, joined the congregants of the Church of Christ in Africa in Makadara constituency for the Sunday service.

The president, who was accompanied by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, made his way into the church a few minutes before 10:00 pm.

Other leaders accompanying the president included Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, area MP George Aladwa, Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, MPs Amos Mwago and Felix Odiwour, also known as Jalang’o, and Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris, among others.

The President returns to Makadara, where he last attended the Jericho Africa Inland church service on March 24, 2025.

During the visit that coincided with a raging debate on politicians’ donating to religious institutions, Ruto vowed to shame the devil and the people, terming the donations to churches as politically motivated.

Shame the devil

“We shall shame the devil; the devil cannot prevent us from developing our country or developing our places of worship,” the president said.

The head of state then assured the faithful that he would support them in completing construction of the house of worship. Ruto said his involvement in such church projects aligns with his faith, and he does not require the permission of anyone to donate.

“I am going to be a member of the construction committee of this church. I see there is still some work left. I am a member of AIC and I know everything,” he said.

He further pledged to personally give Ksh20 million towards the construction of the church.

Ruto’s bountiful donations and promises then sparked public debate, with critics questioning where such generous contributions are coming from, especially during tough economic times.
