South Mugirango Member of Parliament (MP) Silvanus Osoro has stated that the leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Rigathi Gachagua, is not fit to be president of the Republic of Kenya.
Speaking in Kangundo, Kajiado County, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Osoro stated that the former deputy president cannot run for president in the country.
“ Ile side ingine nani anakaa sura ya rais, wacha maneno mingi, sura tu. Hiyo group ukipiga picha wakiwa Pamoja, angalia sura inakaa kuwa rais. Kama ni yule jamaa wa kufungia longi hapa, hawezi kuw aris. Hana sura ya rais; hawezi simama kiti, juu ya koti yake,” he posed.
Loosely interpreted as:
“Who looks like they can become president on the other side? Just by appearance, not words. If you take a picture of those people (opposition) when they’re together, who looks like they can become president? If it’s the other guy, he does not wear fitting clothes. He cannot become president; he cannot be viewed just by his dressing,” he stated
Furthermore, Osoro criticised Gachagua, stating that a country cannot be run by slogans.
The opposition
This comes even as the opposition leaders in the country have called on Kenyans to unite in removing President William Ruto from office in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during their tour of Voi on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua accused President Ruto of promoting tribalism, stating that his administration is a major obstacle to national progress.
Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka lauded Gen Z for their boldness in speaking out and urged them to show up in large numbers during the elections.
On his part, DAP-Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa criticised the government for failing to deliver on its promises, saying Kenyans deserve better leadership.
In the aftermath of the impeachment in October 2024, Gachagua was joined by a coalition of prominent political figures, including People’s Liberation Party (PLP) Leader Martha Karua, Musyoka, Wamalwa, and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, among others.
Further, Gachagua, on May 15, 2025, officially launched the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Lavington, Nairobi.
