According to the post, the Supreme Court confirmed that both parents must decide together the name of the child, emphasizing that the process is not only symbolic but essential to the child’s identity and well -being.

In the 2017 decision, Judge Maureen Odera emphasized that the right to identity is essential to the child’s psychological, social and physical growth.

He referred to a psychological study that shows that individuals need to fully understand their identity in order to become well -corrected participants in society.

The child’s law assures every child the right to the name, nationality, and, when possible, know and be cared for by both parents.

Based on this legal basis, Judge Hillary Chemitei recently decided that one parent could not mention the child on the one hand without the consent of the other.

The recent decision was based on a case filed in August last year by a man identified by the name of CKM, who accused his wife of naming their younger daughter without consulting her.

The couple, who have married since 2012, have five children. CKM claimed that his wife chose their daughter’s name that combined the Japanese female name with two Kikuyu names, while preferring the French name, Holy name, and respect for her father.

The CKM told the court that he had paid all medical expenses related to the birth of the baby and feared the birth certificate would remove the father’s family.

He claimed that his legal right to participate in giving his child the name was ignored.

Judge Chemitei decided that naming the child was the collective responsibility of the parent and no one had the authority to take action alone.

The judge ordered both parents to agree on the name within 30 days. If they have failed, the father’s proposed name will be passed.

The registrar of generations and deaths was instructed to implement this decision after the deadline.

The court concluded that naming him is a collective parent’s right that cannot be given to other people or to be charged by one parent.

According to the newspaper, the government has proposed a new law aimed at tackling misconduct at health care facilities, following an increase in public concerns about preventable deaths in hospitals.

The Health and Safety Bill, 2025, is administered by the Ministry of Health and is currently open to public opinion.

Officials said the bill aims to create a clear legal system to improve health care standards and protect patients’ rights.

According to the draft, health care providers violating safety standards may face a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

The proposed law also includes difficult conditions for licensing for health facilities, such as confirmation of qualified staff and regular inspections to ensure adherence.

Health Ministry officials noted that the reforms were designed to ensure that all health institutions meet low safety and quality standards.

They added that if it was enacted, the law would implement accountability and significantly improve the quality of services in public and private centers.

4. Nation Today

The Swahili newspaper reported that President William Ruto has intensified efforts to defeat the Wiper leader’s stronghold Kalonzo Musyoka Ukraine, targeting two million local voters ahead of his expected visit this month.

In recent days, Ruto partners have made a series of prominent events throughout the Kitui, Machakos and Makueni counties, donating money through public donations to help women and youth groups.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula led the delegates to Kitui and later to the city of Machakos, where he emphasized the government’s commitment to bring equal development to all areas.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also led similar plans in Zombe and Mukuyuni, strengthening Ruto’s promises to the campaign.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot distinguished the actions of Kikiki and that of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that the master focused on personal wealth rather than raising the community.

In a similar move, several local leaders who previously supported Kalonzo have transferred their obedience to Ruto.

Among them are Kitui County Speaker Kelvin Katisya and Machakos Speaker Anne Kiusya.

Wiper MP Patrick Makau of Mavoko has also separated from the Kalonzo-Gaida alliance, with Western MP Charles Nguna suggesting to join the government saying that progressive politics are of great benefit to the region.

Meanwhile, Kalonzo and Gachagua campaigned in Makueni County, condemning Ruto’s plans to give them power as fraud.

They accused the President of using government resources to undermine opposition.
