The frustrated tenant, identified by the name of Irene, contacted Nairobi County Chief Environment Officer, Geoffrey Mosoria, who visited the buildings.

In a video distributed by Mosiria on Facebook, the condition of the house appears, with dirty water flooding at home because of the toilet plug.

Why did landlord Nairobi withhold the planner’s toilet drainage

Irene allegedly disagreed with the ‘Caretaker’ who claimed to have been ordered by the landlord to close the drainage.

“The guard took off my clothes on the rope, when I asked him to return he kicked me, I wanted him to be arrested, but the landlord paid for the bond,” said the tenant.

He narrated that he had informed the landlord that he did not understand the caretaker and he just wanted his clothes to be returned to leave the building.

“He told me to leave the case against Caretaker if I wanted to stay in the apartment. Otherwise, I should leave.

The destructive tenant added that he later witnessed the security guard blocking a stream to his home, claiming the landlord threatened to leave it until he was brought to court.

Irene believes that all these actions were intended to force her to leave the house.

Is it? What did the Githurai 44 landlord say?

Speaking by telephone to the county official, the landlord claimed he had acquired the property recently and had been just the landlord of Irene for the past two months.

He said the house had many issues and required renovations, which led him to give Irene a notice to leave in April. He added that he returned the tax for the month so that he could find somewhere else to live.

“I bought a house in January and I started managing it in March.

The landlord said when the notice period was over, Irene took him to the court and filed a court order to prevent his dismissal.

“I asked him how he expected us to fix it while he was still living in the house. The county official even visited by a plumbing technician who proposed to completely remove the toilet to repair the drainage, but we cannot do so while still inside,” he explained.

Geoffrey Mosiria orders the landlord to unlock the drainage

Mosiria asked the landlord to open drainage to restore the toilet to the tenant and eliminate the health risk of the raw sewing community.

“Please call your guardian to override this immediately. This is your home, and you have the right to evict the tenant in accordance with the law but it is my responsibility to protect the environment and safety of those living there,” said Mosoria.

He also asked the tenant be allowed to remain until the end of June.

“They will write a dedicated letter to leave at the end of this month and share one copy with you and I so that the issue can be dealt with,” he added.

Mosiria condemned the landlord’s actions as non -humanitarian and serious concern for public health.

“We intervened immediately, to prevent drainage, and to ensure the immediate safety of the planner continued.
