PHOTOS: Azerbaijan officially inaugurates embassy in Nairobi

The Republic of Azerbaijan, a transcontinental country located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, has officially inaugurated an embassy in Nairobi as part of its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Kenya.

In a statement by the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the nation celebrated that the embassy would facilitate achieving bilateral cooperation with Kenya while simultaneously advancing relationships that would yield mutual benefits and abundant opportunities.

“Pleased to attend the official inauguration ceremony of the Embassy of #Azerbaijan to #Kenya. Azerbaijan’s bilateral cooperation with Kenya is a relationship and partnership of mutual benefit and opportunities,” he declared.

He further emphasised that the official opening of the consulate represented yet another significant milestone in the comprehensive development of Kenya and Azerbaijan’s cooperation.

“Today’s official inauguration of the Embassy of Azerbaijan here, in Nairobi, is another milestone in the comprehensive development of our cooperation,” the minister added.

Present during the occasion was the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who, in the photos, was observed warmly greeting Azerbaijan’s Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

In other photos, he was seen presenting a bouquet of roses to the minister, while in additional shots he held a red ribbon together with the minister, symbolically cutting it to mark the official opening of the embassy.

Mudavadi was also taken on an interior tour of the embassy, where portraits of their various leaders adorned several rooms.

He was further seen receiving an explanation about a particular photograph, with Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointing towards an object mounted on the wall as Mudavadi looked on attentively.

Later, Mudavadi signed a visitors’ book while flanked by the country’s officials before concluding the event, which will now enable Kenyans seeking to travel to Azerbaijan to have easier access and a dedicated place to request consular services.

Jeyhun’s Kenya visit

The embassy opening coincided with Minister Jeyhun’s arrival in the country, where he was also warmly received by President William Ruto.

In a similar post on X, he expressed gratitude towards President Ruto for his cordial reception and emphasised that, beyond the embassy inauguration, he was undertaking a brief official tour of Kenya.

“It was an honour to be received by the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. William Samoei Ruto @WilliamsRuto, during my official visit to Kenya,” he added.

Jeyhun also revealed that he had engaged in discussions with President Ruto regarding the vital role African countries play within Azerbaijan’s foreign policy framework.

He asserted that Kenya was deemed highly suitable for this role and noted that they had deliberated on ways to fortify bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the future.

“I reiterated the significance of African countries, including Kenya, in the foreign policy of Azerbaijan, and expressed our willingness to further strengthen our bilateral and multilateral cooperation.”
