What is brain malaria?

According to the Mayo Clinic, malaria is a disease caused by human parasites through infected mosquitoes.

People with malaria have severe fever and body tremors. However, malaria can be very dangerous, especially when caused by plasmodium falciparum species, which is widely found in Africa.

Brain malaria occurs when the blood cells filled with parasites block the small blood vessels in the brain.

This condition can cause inflammation in the brain, loss of consciousness, convulsions, or even coma.

In extreme cases, rapid spread of parasites to vital organs can cause death within a few hours.
