DCP Women League Chair Cate Waruguru has on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, announced that the party will officially join the Gen Z-led protests against the proposed 2025 Finance Bill.

Waruguru was addressing the press shortly after a meeting at the party’s headquarters.

In her statement, she noted that as Gen Z marks one year since their powerful emergence demanding accountability and reforms, they will not walk alone this time.

Waruguru said the 2025 protests will be multisectoral, drawing participation from Generation Z, Generation Alpha, millennials, and the DCP Party.

She further acknowledged the sacrifice made by the young protesters in 2024, some of whom lost their lives, adding that the DCP Party stands in solidarity with them and with all Kenyans seeking change.

“We are angukaring with this government on the 2025 finance bill. Gen Zs, as you celebrate your one year of patriotism and as you even mourn and continue remembering the heroes who died in Gen Z’s protests last year, this time you’re not alone. The DCP party is with you, your parents are with you, and millennials are with you na tunaanguka with anyone,” waruguru said

Waruguru also emphasised the importance of public engagement in the legislative process.

She called upon citizens to review and submit their views on the Finance Bill 2025, which is already before the National Assembly for its first reading.

She announced that the party will soon unveil hotline numbers to enable Kenyans to communicate their opinions directly with the party leadership.

“The bill has been tabled for its first reading. We are calling upon Kenyans to reach out. Our offices are open, and we will make public our hotline numbers so that you can inform us and help us form a collective position that truly represents the mwananchi,” Waruguru added.

She concluded by urging Kenyans to join DCP, stating that it is the only political party that genuinely represents the interests of the people.

DCP NEC meeting

This address by Waruguru followed an NEC meeting held at the party headquarters, chaired by DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua in Lavington, Nairobi. During the meeting, Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala was also present, among other top dignitaries from the party.

The address comes a day before the party’s anticipated launch at Kasarani Gymnasium, which was later postponed after the venue management cancelled the event, citing preparations for CHAN 2024.

This forced the party to call off the launch, which was initially scheduled for June 4.
