Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga hosted the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), during his official visit to Kenya.
In a statement shared by the Spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Hussein Aden Igeh (Deyr), on Monday night, June 2, 2025, disclosed that the meeting was held at Raila’s Nairobi residence.
“President Abdirahman Irro Meets with The Right Honourable Raila Odinga in Nairobi In the course of his official visit to the Republic of Kenya, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, held a distinguished meeting with The Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya and one of Africa’s foremost statesmen, at his Nairobi residence,” the statement reads in part.
Details of the meeting
During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in a candid and visionary dialogue focused on deepening bilateral cooperation between Somaliland and Kenya.
According to Igeh, their discussions encompassed strategic sectors such as peace and security, economic integration, education, cultural exchange, and diplomatic partnership.
“During their deliberations, the two leaders engaged in a candid and visionary dialogue aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors, including peace and security, economic integration, education, cultural exchange, and diplomatic partnership,” the statement reads in part.

In addition, Abdillahi and Odinga also exchanged insights on the evolving geopolitical dynamics of the Horn of Africa. They emphasised the importance of African-led solutions, mutual recognition, and inclusive development as essential strategies for addressing regional challenges and fostering stability.

Abdillahi on Odinga’s leadership
During their meeting, the Somaliland president expressed heartfelt gratitude to the former prime minister for his unwavering moral leadership and steadfast solidarity with the people of Somaliland.
He commended Odinga’s enduring commitment to justice, dignity, and the pursuit of self-determination, acknowledging that such support has significantly elevated Somaliland’s voice on both continental and global stages.
“His Excellency extended his heartfelt gratitude for Odinga’s unwavering moral leadership and steadfast solidarity with the people of Somaliland. He lauded Odinga’s enduring commitment to justice, dignity, and the pursuit of self-determination, which has elevated the voice of Somaliland on the continental and global stages,” the statement reads in part.

Abdillahi further reaffirmed Somaliland’s unwavering commitment to preserving peace, promoting regional stability, and enhancing constructive cooperation with neighbouring states.
He emphasised Somaliland’s role as a reliable and principled partner dedicated to fostering inclusive development, security, and sustainable prosperity for both its citizens and the broader Horn of Africa region.
“In conclusion, President Irro reaffirmed Somaliland’s steadfast commitment to the preservation of peace, the promotion of regional stability, and the enhancement of constructive cooperation with neighbouring states,” the statement reads in part.
