Kapsaret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has stated that Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is desperate for sympathy.
In a statement on X on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Sudi called upon Gachagua’s allies to observe caution around their leader.
“Wamunyoro allies should now worry that he can eliminate one of them in order to accuse the government of killing his people,” he stated.
“His desperation for sympathy is unmatched,” he added.
This comes after the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that Juja MP George Koimburi stage-managed his abduction for political gains.
The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, and DCI boss Amin Mohamed said that upon interrogation of three additional suspects in the alleged abduction, they found glaring and inconsistent gaps disabusing the forceful abduction.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, in Nairobi, the duo wondered why the MP, allied to former DP Rigathi Gachagua, had to fake his abduction just to subject the country to political tension.
DCI boss Amin Mohamed said that officers trailed MP Koimburi’s movement until the last moment he was discovered at the coffee plantation in Juja, but there was a mismatch.
“Fortunately, we’ve been able to expedite the investigations and to expose to the public that the MP was indeed not abducted,” Mohamed said.
“We were able to account for all his movements from the time he attended church up to where he slept at night. We have identified the hotel and the room number where he slept.”
The abduction
Further, he stated that the investigative team was denied permission to interrogate the MP in the hospital, further casting doubt on the alleged abduction.
The National Police further intimated that a probe into the incidents has revealed how MP Koimburi worked with his proxies to stage his capture.
“Through the interrogation of the suspects, Peter Kiratu (Juja CDF chairman), Cyrus Kieru Muhia, and Karanja Gatana, officers managed to identify the Subaru vehicle used in the abduction,” they said.
“Muhia, who runs a supermarket in the Kahawa West area, stated that on May 24, he received a call from Kiratu asking for his Subaru Forester to transport additional security for the MP while they attended a church service in Mugutha,” they added.
Further, they revealed that Kiratu instructed him to go to his homestead in Mugutha on May 25, where he met a man named Gatana who was driving Kiratu’s Honda CRV along with three unknown men.
They then proceeded to the church to familiarise themselves with the route before returning.
“Later, Kiratu called and instructed him to drive his Subaru Forester with two men towards the church. Upon arrival, the two men exited quickly, and he heard screams as the MP was forced into the vehicle,” said the police.
They drove towards Jacaranda Coffee Research via Kambogo Road, where the MP instructed them to stop near Kiratu’s Honda CRV. Cyrus was then left with the two men, who warned him not to disclose any information to the police.
The police have promised to take action against the MP once the full investigation is complete.
