How Wetang’ula mourned the Ngugi Ngugi of Thiong’o

As news of Ngugi’s death began to shock the country on Wednesday, May 28, Wetang’ula wrote a strong poem for the author.

In his condolences, the speaker used poetic language to explain how Ngugi used his artistic work to speak fearlessly about African issues to the world.

“The news of the death of Nngi’ong’o’s death gave me a lot of sadness in my mind.

“Prof. Ngilize was not bound by the common barriers of storytelling. He carried the soul of the mainland and the cries of his people in every line he wrote. Wetang’ula said.

Recalling Ngugi’s famous novels such as The River between Betawen and Petals of Blood, Wetang’ula said the famous writer used his work to restore the respect of African languages.

“His novels, weep not, child, the river between, a grain of wheat, the petals of blood revealed the wounded nation’s but stable classes. he added.

According to Wetang’ula, despite Ngugi’s death, his inheritance will not be erased in the minds of many people who study his work.

How the death of Thiong’o Ngugi was announced

Mukoma of Ngugi, the son of Thiong’o’s literary nominee, appeared on social media to mourn his father, whose death was announced on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

He joined family, friends, and fellow Kenyans in expressing his sadness over the tragedy.

Mukoma’s sister, Wanjiku of Ngugi, had published the sad news on her Facebook account, leaving many wondering and sad.

Meanwhile, Mukoma wrote congratulations from the heart as he mourned his dead father at the age of 87.

He revealed how difficult it was to find the right words, overwhelmed with the pain of losing his example – a man who led his own journey in literature.
