Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata has raised the alarm over the disappearance of Kanyenyaini Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Nduta, popularly known as ‘City,’ stating that she was picked up by unknown persons under very unclear circumstances.

In a public update shared on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Kang’ata stated that unconfirmed claims had circulated suggesting that the MCA had been taken to Samuru Police Post in Gatanga.

Acting promptly, the governor confirmed that he had made a personal visit to the said police post to verify the matter, but she was not found there.

“Hon City MCA Kanyenyaini Kangema has been picked up by unknown persons. Unconfirmed reports had suggested she is in the Samuru Police Post, Gatanga. I have visited the post to no avail,” Kang’ata stated.

Governor Kang’ata went on to affirm that the Murang’a County Government is now fully engaged in tracing the MCA’s whereabouts, especially in light of the worry and anxiety it has caused her family and constituents.

“Murang’a County will endeavour to trace her, particularly because of her family,” he added.

Koimburi’s disappearance

Kang’ata’s update comes hot on the heels of Juja MP George Koimburi’s recent abduction saga, which has now taken a dramatic twist following a DCI report indicating that the MP may have staged his own disappearance to stir public drama.

The update was issued by DCI boss Mohamed Amin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, who said that the officers trailed Koimburi’s movement from the time of his disappearance until the last moment he was discovered at the coffee plantation in Juja, but there was a mismatch.

“It is unfortunate for a whole member of parliament to go to that extent of stage-managing his own abduction, creating a lot of fear and tension in the country. Fortunately, we were able to expedite the investigations and expose to the public that the MP was indeed not abducted. We were able to account for all his movements from the time he attended church up to where he slept at night,” Amin stated.

After the missing person reports, Koimburi resurfaced on Monday, May 26, 2025, inside a coffee plantation farm in Kibichoi, Ruiru.

According to reports, the MP was found in a distressing state with his raiment tattered. He was then rushed to a hospital in Nairobi for treatment.

His resurfacing came after reports went viral that he had been taken by unknown individuals during a Sunday afternoon sermon at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha.

Koimburi had joined the congregation for the church service, accompanied by his wife, Anne Koimburi, and his family.

According to his wife, the legislator was assailed by two men in plain clothes and bundled into a Subaru vehicle while interacting with congregants.

The incident sparked outrage, with members of the public demanding the release of the legislators, even as authorities remain silent on the matter that has fuelled fears of a return to cases of abductions and forced disappearances of people.

Koimburi’s run-ins with law-enforcers

His disappearance followed a series of run-ins with law enforcement and the government, even as authorities remained silent about any involvement in the incident.

The latest was the controversial statement he made describing President William Ruto as a man who has been rejected by God, the devil, and even the church during a church service on Monday, May 18, 2025.

The remarks came in the wake of Ruto’s controversial statement in which he claimed to have spoken to the late Chief Cheluget of Narok about the purchase of a parcel of land, despite the fact that the chief died several years ago.

Koimburi had also been arrested and charged in the Kiambu court over forged academic papers on February 19, 2025.
