K24 news anchor and reporter Robi Chacha has been declared the winner of the prestigious Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance East Africa Award.
This is in recognition of her reporting on health that has brought attention to the realities of non-communicable diseases in the country.
Robi attended the regional awards ceremony held at Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda, which was organised by NCD Alliance East Africa, from May 26 to May 28, 2025.
This award is part of a regional effort to recognize and celebrate individuals whose work in communication, creative arts, and public engagement has significantly advanced awareness and action on non-communicable diseases across East Africa.
Robi’s reaction
Reflecting on her reporting career, Robi says she is happy for the recognition and has promised to deliver even more.
“I just returned from Uganda, where I was honoured with an East African award for my reporting on non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Standing there, holding that award, I felt a rush of emotions: pride, gratitude, and deep reflection.”
“For the past five years, I have told countless stories about people living with NCDs, cancer, diabetes (even among children ), hypertension, rare diseases, and more. I have walked through hospital corridors, spoken to survivors, listened to caregivers, and tried to bring to life the silent battles many families fight every day. These stories have never just been assignments. They’ve been my contribution to making NCDs visible, because too often, they are not,” Robi noted
Dedication
“This award is not just mine. It belongs to the mothers who shared their struggles, the doctors who offered insight, and the young people who opened up about living with chronic conditions. It belongs to the editors who gave these stories space and to my viewers who paid attention,” Robi stated.
“As I carry this recognition home, I do so with renewed energy. There is still more work to be done, more stories to tell, more awareness to raise, and more lives to honour.”
“Non-communicable diseases may be silent, but our voices won’t be,” she added.
