The famous Kenyan scholar and writer, Ngî of Thiong’o, has died. Through information on Facebook, Ngugi’s Wanjiku announced the death of his father.
Wanjiku revealed that the famous writer died on Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025.
In his message, Wanjiku called on Kenyans to celebrate the life and work of Ng respons, emphasizing that he lived a full life and fought a good war.
“It is with great sadness we proclaim the death of our father, Ngũga of Thionong’o, this morning, Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He lived a full life, fought a good battle. As he wished before his death, we should celebrate his life and his work. Rîa Ratha and Rîa thŭa. Tŭrî Aira! “
A family spokesman, Ngugi of Ngugi, will soon announce a memorial schedule.
Thiong’o is a prominent writer and scholar from Kenya, who is respected as one of the best writers in East Africa.
As he started writing in English, he later decided to write in Gikuyu and other native languages in Kenya, as a way of fighting for cultural freedom and self -awareness. His works often focus on colonial topics, cultural identity, and social justice.
