After being tasked to pray for the youth and social media during the National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park on May 28, 2025, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, popularly known as Mama Boys among her constituents, delivered a solemn and passionate prayer.
In her address to God, Elachi condemned what she described as the “spirit of social media” that has taken hold of the youth and is now seemingly running the country. She pleaded with God to deliver the young people from its grip.
“And Father, we pray that this social media that has decided to run our country, my Father, that spirit—my Father in heaven, we want to confess as legislators that indeed we must sort it out. And may we stand for what is good and the future of our country,” Elachi prayed.
Moral decay
Elachi did not stop there.
She continued her prayer by addressing the moral decay she believes is affecting the younger generation, citing vices such as pornography and gambling.
She placed blame on the older generation and leaders for leaving the youth exposed and helpless, arguing that lawmakers have failed in their duty to create and enforce protective laws.

“We have left our young generation in helplessness in gambling and in pornography. It is for us to change the laws,” she said.
Elachi also acknowledged the failure of parents in fulfilling their role in raising disciplined children.
She asked for forgiveness on behalf of parents who, she said, have allowed their children too much freedom, leading to rebellion. She referenced a Bible verse emphasising the need for discipline in parenting.
“We became parents who are unable. We felt it was good for our children to be who they are. Today, they have rebelled. We are now crying as parents. Father, indeed, forgive us. The Bible says as parents, we shall discipline our children for them to see the glory of God and also have order to take over,” she added.
Elachis’s past stance on the same
This comes at a time when Elachi has been vocal about the need to regulate social media, a stance that has placed her at odds with many Kenyans.

Her remarks during the prayer breakfast echo sentiments she has previously expressed in various public forums.
The National Prayer Breakfast was held at Safari Park, which saw many leaders, including the president, attend, and was hosted by the national assembly speaker and his senate counterpart.
