Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has questioned the events that happened during the abduction of his Juja counterpart George Koimburi on May 25, 2025.
In a statement on X on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Kaluma asked about the whereabouts of Koimburi’s bodyguard and why the perpetrators abducted him openly.
“Where was Hon. Koimburi’s bodyguard? Who would abduct him from church, in public? Why would anyone abduct a person with zero political value like Koimburi?” he posed.
“In law, we talk about ‘case theory’ to investigate criminal acts, motive and intent.
What is the “theory” behind the crime?” he added.
He joins other leaders, including Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, who has condemned the abduction of the legislator.
In a statement on X on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Salasya stated that Koimburi’s abduction is unacceptable and must be stopped.
“I want to condemn whatever happened to Koimburi. It’s unacceptable if it’s true that the trained police officers were involved in the incident. We must rise up and stop this. This is not the country we want. We want a secure country where every individual is guaranteed security and not a country where everybody fears what could happen to them next,” he stated.
Further, Salasya has asked Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to fast-track the investigations to find out whether police were involved in the abduction of the Juja MP.
“I want to ask the IG to speed up the investigations to find out if this incident was truly performed by trained officers, and if yes, then IPOA should take charge, and those officers should be charged by the rule of law,” he said.
Koimburi’s abduction
Koimburi was found dumped at a coffee plantation in Kiambu County on Monday, May 26, 2025, after he was abducted by unknown individuals outside a church in Mugutha.
His family confirmed that MP Koimburi appeared brutally tortured and is currently being treated at Plainsview Hospital near Ruiru town.
According to eyewitness accounts and statements from Koimburi’s wife, Ann Koimburi, the MP was accosted by two men disguised as worshippers.
They joined a crowd of well-wishers greeting the MP after the service before suddenly overpowering him and forcing him into a waiting Subaru Forester with an altered number plate allegedly intended to obscure the vehicle’s true identity.
“We had just left church, and it is normal for Mheshimiwa to greet people, but they quickly turned on him and forced him into the car,” Koimburi said.
Further, she stated that she attempted to intervene but was overpowered and injured in the ensuing scuffle.
“They started hitting me from outside, and I felt as if my arm was broken. I had no choice but to let go of my husband,” she recounted.
The two men, dressed in plain clothes, did not identify themselves during the incident.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied any involvement in the abduction, though it confirmed that Koimburi has been sought since Friday in connection with alleged land fraud and misuse of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
