Gospel singer Justina Syokau has responded to a recent decline in her Facebook followers, clarifying that she did not attend the meeting held by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki with artistes at his Karen residence.

In a video shared on her official Instagram account on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Syokau expressed confusion over the unfollows, stating that she was not part of the gathering and questioned the reason behind the sudden loss of followers.

Syokau further questioned the reasons behind the unfollows, stating that she had not been involved in any controversial events. She added that, had she attended Kindiki’s meeting, she would have made it known.

Ninataka kucorrect kitu inaendelea. I was not in Karen. Why are you unfollowing me? My Facebook account, Justina Syokau watu wananiunfollow bure tu me. I was not in Karen, and if I was in Karen ningesema nilikuwa. Why are you unfollowing my Facebook page? What offence have I committed?” Syokau asked.

The 2020 hitmaker had earlier disclosed that she had lost approximately 1,000 followers on her Facebook page.

“Have been unfollowed by 1k followers; I was 623K, now 622K. Kwania mupendi Gospel, just singing the ni Mungu song is it bad?” she claimed.

However, this could be a publicity stunt to promote her recently released song.

Artiste boycott

Syokau’s clarification and her inquiry about the unfollows come days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called on musicians who attended Kindiki’s meeting at Karen to apologise to Kenyans

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kihoya in Kangema Constituency, Murang’a County, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Gachagua warned that if the musicians do not apologise, Kenyans should unfollow them and stop inviting them to clubs.

“We are very sad that some of our artistes have become traitors for the community. They were invited at Karen by Mr Moneybags and told to come and lie to you that SHA (Social Health Authority) is working. They were told to tell us that roads are being built and education is running smoothly… and they accepted. I sat down with elders and they told me to announce that the artistes should apologise,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua says Kindiki was at the helm of the security docket when Gen Z protestors were killed by the police in 2024, hence his hands were filled with blood.

“If they do not apologise, we should stop listening to their music. They should also not be invited to the entertainment joints where they go. If club owners call such a person, customers should shift to another place. Also, unfollow them on social media,” he added.

Among the notable musicians who attended were Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, alias Samidoh and Ben Githae.
