Catholic Padre, female passengers perish after their car was flooded

According to Vanguard News, the man of God sank sadly after his car was flooded.

The tragic event occurred in Niger province, Nigeria.

A Catholic priest dies in a flooding tragedy after an incident in the church

Next to him was a female passenger, Charity John, who also lost his life in the crash.

Dr. Omeh, Parish of the Catholic Church of St. Anthony in Gulu and the coordinator of the Nigerian Christian Party (CAN) for the Lapai Local Government (LGA), was returning from a religious convention in Duma village to Gulu on Saturday, May 25, 2025.

At noon, their Toyota Hilux car plunged into a floodwaters caused by heavy rainfall that negatively affected the highway.

Eyewitnesses reported that heavy rainfall caused severe erosion, making the road a betrayal.

Dr Omeh who was driving the car failed to control the car and was drained with water in a long water hole where he and Charity John drowned in the water.

Local volunteers made great efforts to rescue the residents, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

When the car was finally released, the bodies of Father Omeh and Charity John were found in life.

Niger State Police Officer, SP Wasiu Abiidun, confirmed the tragic incident:

“On May 25, 2025 at 1pm, reports were received that Pastor James Omeh and Charity John were flooded while traveling in a white Toyota Hilux car, the car sank into a stream due to heavy rainfall.

Police officers from the Lapai Division, assisted by the community, took the bodies and handed it over to the church for burial. The car was also pulled from the stream.

A man, wife and neighbor are flooded by flood

As we reported earlier, in Machakos County, a businessman, his wife, and two other passengers died while driving home after their car was hit by the Manyanzaani River.

Police reported that the businessman tried to cross the bridge when the rising water was pushing the car.

Rescuers found the car 20 meters behind the bridge, with three bodies, but one passenger was absent.
