The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed abduction claims involving Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, stating that the lawmaker evaded arrest in connection to a land fraud investigation.
Evaded police arrest
In a statement released on Monday, May 26, the police said Koimburi is a suspect in a case involving irregular land transactions in Juja and Thika.
“The MP has been under investigation for a land fraud matter, and consent to prosecute was issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP),” NPS said.
Police said Koimburi, fully aware of the planned arrest on Friday, May 23, managed to flee by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security after deceiving officers during a dragnet operation.
“His car, with only the driver inside, was intercepted; the driver was arrested but later released after recording a statement,” the police noted.
Family raises alarm
The police statement came hours after Koimburi’s family claimed he had been abducted by unknown individuals. The MP was reportedly taken on the evening of Sunday, May 25, while driving in the Kenyatta Road area.
According to family sources, he was found unconscious on Monday morning in a coffee plantation several kilometres from where he was allegedly picked up.
.

The claims triggered a flurry of social media reactions, with some of the MP’s allies condemning what they described as a politically motivated attack. Several leaders demanded answers, saying the incident reflected a worrying trend of intimidation.
Scene examined thoroughly
Police said they had visited the area where the MP was allegedly found and documented the scene. A team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is also analyzing video footage and social media posts related to the alleged abduction.
“A special team from DCI headquarters is analysing the purported abduction video and all circumstances surrounding these allegations to conclusively establish the truth,” the statement read.
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to justice, adding: “We ensure all reported cases are thoroughly and expeditiously investigated to bring those responsible to justice.”
