Former Chief Justice David Maraga has broken his silence following the abduction and eventual discovery of Juja MP George Koimburi, who was found unconscious at a farm in Githunguri a day after being taken from a church service.
In a strongly worded message on his social media handles on Monday, May 26, 2025, Maraga condemned the incident, terming it a disturbing violation of the rule of law and an assault on human dignity.
“Reports that Hon. George Koimburi, Member of Parliament for Juja, has been found unconscious at a farm near Kibichoi in Githunguri constituency, are reprehensible. This is a day after he was abducted from a church service,“ Maraga says

Maraga accused President William Ruto of double speak and misleading the public, recalling his earlier commitment during the visit of the Finnish President that abductions would be a thing of the past under his administration.
The former CJ questioned whether that statement was an indirect admission that state agencies had been involved in the spate of abductions witnessed in the country and whether the president had lied to Kenyans.
”Kenyans will recall that President Ruto, when hosting the president of Finland, assured Kenyans that abductions would end. Was that a confirmation that state agencies are involved? Did he lie about ending abductions?” he posed.
The abduction of Koimburi just weeks after the president’s assurances, and this, according to Maraga, is proof that the government lacks commitment to ending enforced disappearances.
He said the act of abducting a sitting Member of Parliament in broad daylight and later dumping him in a coffee plantation was a clear demonstration of the state’s disregard for human life.
Maraga said Kenya cannot afford to be governed by leaders who have no respect for the rule of law or human rights.
He called for a reset to constitutionalism and accountability, saying it is the only way to restore dignity and value for human life in the country.
“We cannot continue to be a country governed by leaders who have no regard for the rule of law and human life. We must reset Kenya to accountability and constitutionalism. We must restore human dignity and value for human life,” he concluded
Update on MPs’ health
This comes hot on the heels of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s visit to Karen Hospital, where the MP is being hospitalised.
According to the former DP, the MP is in critical condition, with reports from the doctors suggesting that the MP was tortured by a professional based on the soft tissue injuries sustained by the MP.

In addition, the MP has also lost his voice as a result of damage to the vocal cords and an injury sustained during the torture.
His blood samples, as reported by Gachagua, have been taken to different private laboratories for investigations
