The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called on the investigative agencies to urgently solve the case involving Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, who was found dumped in a coffee plantation on Monday, May 26, 2025.

In a statement shared by LSK President Faith Odhiambo, the society implored the investigative agencies to channel all their resources and track the perpetrators of the said abduction ordeal.

LSK insisted that security agencies are bound to protect all citizens, and if such acts go on, they could spur a wave of insecurity in the country.

“We call on our investigative agencies to urgently deploy resources to identify, weed out, and punish the perpetrators of this and other heinous crimes over which the people of Kenya remain anxious. The National Security Organs are constitutionally bound to protect all the people of Kenya and to uphold the Constitution. We urge that this is the time to reclaim this role, to preserve Kenya’s national stability,” LSK demanded.

Restoring public trust

At the same time, LSK called on the security agencies to resolve all pending cases and restore public trust. The society made it clear that it was in the public interest that all the cases be resolved swiftly.

“Today’s events bear unfortunate shades of days past, in which human rights could be violated and limited every which way, with little to no resolution or repercussions. We strongly condemn the inhumane treatment that Hon. Koimburi was subjected to and reiterate that there is no room for criminality and violation of human rights in the Kenya of today. We note that the current trend of unresolved violent crimes across the country poses a lasting threat to our national security, cohesion and constitutionalism, and it is in the public interest that all outstanding cases be resolved swiftly,” the statement added.

How safe are Kenyans

In the statement, LSK also questioned how the state was prepared to protect ordinary citizens if a member of parliament could be abducted in broad daylight.

The society also recalled a recent incident where the late Kasipul MP Charles Were was gunned down in Nairobi to express worry over the state of Kenya’s security.

“This chilling resurgence of clandestine criminal operations is worrying and poses serious concerns about the current state of our national security. Coming against the backdrop of the assassination of the late Hon. Ong’ondo Were in full public glare, the fundamental question that arises is how safe the people of Kenya are if such absurd atrocities can be committed against guarded elected leaders.”

Gachagua’s statement

Addressing the press outside a city hospital where the lawmaker was admitted after being rescued, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the Juja MP was tortured and even poisoned.

Gachagua was adamant that Koimburi was tortured by professionals specially selected by senior state officials.

“I have seen him and talked to the doctors. They have confirmed that George Koimburi was tortured by professionals. He has soft tissue injuries, a kind of torture done by professionals. He has lost his voice, and the doctors are working around the clock to restore his vocal cords,” Gachagua stated.

Nonetheless, police have since launched investigations, with their statement appearing to dismiss abduction claims.
