Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy Hassan Joho has laid bare the truth that he is far from a stranger when it comes to splashing a considerable fortune on a lady with whom he has shared time and company.

Speaking during a quickfire interview with TikToker President Law on Monday, May 26, 2025, Joho admitted that he has ever spent a huge amount on a lady but could not specify the precise total since he was never counting while making the expenditures.

“The largest sum is never quantified; I have never done the arithmetic, but it certainly exists,” he asserted.

However, Joho then swiftly turned the question back to TikToker Law and challenged him to reveal the biggest amount he has ever splashed on a lady, now that he had already bombarded him with the same question.

Law responded candidly that his largest spend was Ksh30, leaving Joho visibly flabbergasted as he voiced his doubts that such a meagre amount could ever be the sum a man would part with for a lady.

He further expressed his incredulity by asking from which part the lady hailed or what kind of woman would be content with a man spending such a paltry sum on her.

“You there, how much have you ever parted with for a lady, the highest amount?” he probed President Law.

“The highest I have ever spent is thirty shillings,” Law replied.

“Oh, you fibber; so thirty shillings is your lady, my friend? I have never put a figure on it,” Joho retorted.

Joho’s take on protesting Gen Zs

Joho was then pressed to share his perspective on Generation Z, who have been fervently vocal in their opposition to the government, and he was clear that he does not mind them holding the government to account.

However, he emphasised that it is crucial for them to be willing to accompany their criticisms with constructive solutions, for opposition is a two-way dialogue where one calls out faults and proposes remedies.

“Everyone has the right in a democracy to voice their opinions, but it is wise to be objective. Opposition should not be mere opposition for its own sake; one must propose solutions so that you say what you desire rather than only what you reject — in essence, speak to what you want rather than what you do not want. Opposition is acceptable, but it should come hand in hand with good ideas,” he elaborated.

Joho’s biggest battle

In the same interview, Joho also spoke about his biggest challenges at the moment, saying that it is being in a leadership position.

He explained that being answerable to the people and serving them is a demanding endeavour, often fraught with difficulty.

“Delivering, serving the people, is a challenge. That is the greatest battle thus far,” Joho declared.

He went on to reflect on the nature of challenges, observing that they are ceaseless, which is precisely why leaders exist — to shoulder the burden of steering through such relentless obstacles.

“Challenges, by their very nature, never cease, and that is why we have leaders; one must keep pushing every single day and remain responsive to the needs and demands of the people both in the present and for the future.”
