A family in Nyamira County is in distress following the mysterious disappearance of their 17-year-old son from school after an altercation with his Chemistry teacher.
According to the family, Austine Chakua, who was a Form Four student at Mwongori High School, left class and headed to the washroom shortly after his altercation with the teacher. Since then, the student never showed up.
Led by his mother, Mercy Kwamboka, the disheartened family has faulted the school administration over what they described as negligence and failure to take prompt action and reporting to police after the disappearance of their child.
Kwamboka, who spoke shortly after reporting the incident at Matutu Police Station, also detailed that the school issued wrong details regarding their child’s disappearance.

She noted that while testimonials pointed that Austine went missing without a traceon May 14, 2025, the school administration which she says has remained tight-lipped on the matter, informed them that their child went missing on May 20, 2025.
“Tuliambiwa mtoto amepotea on May 20, but vile nimekuja shall, we discovered motto alipotea May 14; so it was not the same May 20 they had told us, alidisappear on May 14 with no trace, the school is not explaining where the child is, so we have been there since yesterday, they are not telling us anything,” Kwamboka told the press.
The missing boy’s father, on the other hand, decried that the school had failed them by not reporting the matter urgently, he shared that the family was the first to report to police despite the teenager going missing from school.
“Kwa kureport kwa police station sisi ndio wa kwanza kuja kureport hawajareport kua huyu mtoto hayuko, ata sisi wenyewe hatukuambiwa, which is very heartbreaking,” Cleophas Nchogu, the child’s father said.
The distressed family has condemned the incident and called on authorities to swiftly take action. They have also appealed to members of the public to report to any nearby police station if they happen to see their son.
