The decision, publicly announced less than three months after Nakuleu resigned as Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly following allegations of misconduct, pointed to another extension in President Ruto’s close round of senior advisers, who have now reached 21.
WHO IS CHRISTOPHER DOYE Nakuleu?
Nakuleu is a veteran politician who served for two sessions as a Turkana North MP from 2013 to 2022.
He also served as a member of the East African Parliament (EALA) between 2007 and 2012.
In the short term, he chaired the Turkana County Parliament from 2022 to early 2025, before resigning in February following a misrepresentation of discipline submitted by MCA Kalokol ward, Michael Ebenyo.
Despite the surroundings of his departure from county politics, the nomination of Nakuleu has been received with congratulations from senior government officials.
The Minister of the East African Community, Beatrice Askul Moe, congratulated him on his new role and emphasized his readiness to fulfill the responsibilities.
“Many congratulations to Nakuleu to be appointed as President Ruto’s chief political adviser,” He said.
“In your period as EALA member, Turkana North MP, and recently as a county Speaker, you have found a deep experience that will undoubtedly be beneficial in your new position.”
What did Nakuleu say about his appointment?
Nakuleu, in turn, received the appointment with humility and gratitude.
Through a post on Facebook, he described the position as “great respect” and thanked those who helped him achieve the move.
“I am deeply touched by the belief that President Ruto has shown me. He wrote.
“Your faith and prayer encourage me to strive hard in this position. As I start this new chapter, I am committed to working hard with you all to achieve our collective goals as a nation. I am ready to use my skills and experience to bring positive change,” he added.
What did Ruto say about the plan to reduce government spending?
However, the rapid increase in presidential advisers has raised fears about the repetition of responsibilities and the increase in public spending.
Critics say that the advisory team, which cost per year is estimated to exceed KSh 1 billion, contradicts the President’s promise to run a small and effective government.
In July 2024, President Ruto announced an order to reduce the number of government advisers by half.
Later, the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, instructed ministers to evaluate their consulting teams and choose only one mentor to remain.
