Elgeyo Marakwet: Armed men are suspected of shooting at the Catholic Church, Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, in the fragile area of TOT, the Kerio valley.

A sad case occurred on Thursday, May 22, when the Patriarch is reportedly on the way to conduct church worship, according to Elgeyo County Police Commander Marakwet, Peter Mulinge.
Patriarch Bett, known for his tireless efforts to promote peace in the conflict zone of the Kerio Valley, is referred to as a symbol of the service of volunteer and firm faith.
His death has caused great shock to society, where he was highly respected for his commitment to spiritual services, education, and reconciliation.

Marakwet West MP, Timothy Toroitich, referred to a murdered priest as a close friend and a light of hope.
“Patriarch Bett was a man of faith that was able to move the mountains. Said Toroitich.
Before being transferred recently to the new TOT parish, Patriarch Bett served in the Nerkwo parish.
In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, he was an important advisor to the development of the local schools, including Chebiemit Boys, Kapkoros Girls, Marakwet Boys, and Cheptulon Girls, contributing to their professional and moral development.

Quoting the famous words of Thomas Jefferson, MP Toroitich expressed hope that the death of Patriarch Bett would not be in vain.
“The shed blood of Patriarch Bett will sprinkle the tree of peace in the Kerio valley,” He said, vowing that the priest’s inheritance would continue to live as a catalyst for healing and unity in the area.

6 suspects of the murder of Patriarch Cheruiyot Bett were arrested
Meanwhile, six suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the priest.
