Aroko was released on Friday, May 16, after the court dismissed a request by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) demanding that he extend his detachment for seven more days.

However, the Supreme Court has dismissed the decision and ordered that he be arrested again for allegedly investigating the murder is still ongoing.

The politician, who has expressed interest in running for Kasipul’s minority elections, was originally called by the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) the day before the funeral of MP Were.

At that time, Arocho accused the governor of Homa Bay Gladys starch by planning his arrest for political reasons.

Despite his allegations of innocence, investigators suspect that Aroko had played a major role in funding the murder of the MP, who was killed in a shooting on Ngong Road on Wednesday, April 30.

New information from the investigation revealed that several suspects in detention allegedly admitted receiving payments to facilitate the killings.

Two suspects were reported to receive KSh 80,000 and KSh 50,000 respectively to transport the armed men, while the other claimed they were paid a minimum of KSh 850,000, while promised further additions after completing the work.

On Monday, May 19, despite being released on bail of KSh 300,000 in cash by Chief Justice Irene Gichobi in JKIA Law Court, Aroko was remanded in court and is currently being detained at Kileleshwa police station.

He will continue to be detained until May 26, awaiting further investigation.

As part of his bail conditions prior to the intervention of the Supreme Court, Aroko had been ordered to surrender his passport, he was prevented from traveling to Homa Bay, and forbidden to contact any other defendants, deceased family members, or people linked to the case.

He was also instructed not to interfere with the evidence and regularly report to investigative officers.

At the same time, the case continues to capture national sentiments as investigators intensify their investigation into the killings, which is believed to be political.

Was Arocho planning to visit Were’s grave?

Aroko, through his attorney Danstan Omarihe expressed his intention to visit Kasipul to pray for the late MP and to contact residents after an investigation into his allegations in the murder of the MP was completed.

His team of lawyers said that, according to African cultures, mourning and funeral rites continue beyond the day of burial.

They explained that Aroko, who is also the expected candidate for Kasipul’s parliamentary seat, could not attend the funeral due to his arrest but still aspires to honor him through his visit to the community.

The visit, they added, will not only be used for cultural and spiritual purposes but will also allow Arocho to interact with voters as part of its political expectations.
