Nairobi – The Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued a statement about the surprise and arrest of Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya.

Why was George Natembeya’s house invaded?
In a statement issued on Monday, May 19, the anti -corruption commission stated that the search was related to ongoing investigations into an unusual payment of KSh 1.4 billion made by the Trans Nzoia County government.
“The EACC, after obtaining a search documents, conducted a search in the residence and offices of governor George Natembeya and four others in connection with allegations of unusual bidding and KSh 1.4 billion air payments made by the Trans Nzoia County government in the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025,” The EACC said.
Natembeya is being investigated for allegedly lobbying for bidding and receiving bribes from contractors.
“Search operations are part of a comprehensive investigation into allegations of violations of procurement procedures, abuse of authority, corruption and the acquisition of public funds through fraud. The governor allegedly influenced bidding and receiving bribes through his agents,”Added the Commission.
According to the EACC, other people under investigation are Emanuel Masungo, Dorothy Nyukuri, Eliyah Liambula, and Desmond Shivachi.
The Commission also investigates claims for financial resources and owns an undetected property.
“In addition, the commission is investigating allegations of money laundering and ownership of property that cannot be explained by senior county officials, suspected of being part of a plan to hide the income from crime,” added.
