Nairobi – Homa Bay politician linked to the murder of Kasipul MP, Charles Ong’ongo Were, Philip Aroko, has been released on bail.

Has Philip Aroko released?
On Friday, May 17, JKIA’s Chief Justice Judge, Irene Gichobi, released Philip Aroko on a cash bail of KSh 300,000.
Judge Gichobi rejected the request of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requiring Aroko to be banned for seven more days.
In his decision, he directed a number of conditions to Aroko, including being asked to hand over his passport to court and banned from traveling to Homa Bay County, where it is the home of the late MP.
In addition, the court banned him from contacting the family of the deceased, other suspects or anyone related to the case.
According to a Citizen TV report, the court also ordered Aroko not to interfere or destroy any evidence related to the ongoing investigation.
As part of the bail conditions, the politician from Kasipul has been ordered to report regularly to investigative officers and provide any evidence required in connection with the case.
Did Philip Aroko plan to visit Were’s home?
The decision was made just a few days after Arocho revealed his intention to pay his respects to the late Kasipul MP, despite being involved in his death.

Monday, May 12, Advocate Danstan Omari He told Judge Alexander Muteti of the Supreme Court that his client had previously planned to attend Were’s funeral.
However, after being arrested and detained, the plans changed and he now wants to go and pray at Were’s grave immediately after being released.
Omari explained that, according to African traditions, the funeral does not end one day, and his client wants to pray for the spirit of Were after the investigation is completed.
He added that the politician, who aims to become a Kasipul MP, plans to visit the area and talk to residents immediately after the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) completed his investigation.
Other progress regarding the murder case of Ong’onda Were
On Thursday, May 8, five suspects linked to the murder of Ong’ongo Were were brought before a judge in the JKIA court.
The prosecution said they were continuing to investigate the alleged financial transactions associated with Aroko, which is suspected of funding the crime.
Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, announced that 10 suspects have already been arrested in connection with the murder of Were.
Advocate Danstan Omari claimed that his client, Philip Aroko, was arrested to prevent him from attending the funeral of Kasipul MP.
