Embu – A state of sadness is rampant in a quiet village of Journey in the Ward of Mavuri, South Mbeere, after a 14 -year -old boy lost his life in a case suspected of food poisoning.

Doctors confirmed that he passed away when he arrived. Six other people admitted to hospital continue to recover under medical care.
The event took place following a Mother’s celebration attended by many people on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
As is customary in many communities, attendees were prepared for food during the ceremony, and at the end of the ceremony, several women carried food remains to share with their families at home.
Confirming the tragedy, Embu County Public Health Officer, Henry Nthiga, said the perpetrators ate food remains on Sunday, May 11, one full day after the ceremony.
He explained that the food was cold; There was no fire, something that was of great danger.
“The meal was not hot. They ate the remains as they were on Sunday. That’s where the danger began,” He said Nthiga confirming the incident.
Symptoms of those affected by food poisoning Embu
After eating the food, victims began to show various symptoms, including a young boy who had diarrhea and other symptoms of severe food poisoning.
However, thinking that it was a normal transitional condition, the family delayed seeking medical care, hoping he would recover.
By Monday, May 12, the boy’s condition was further weakened, and he was rushed to Kentiri Hospital, but sadly he was confirmed dead when he arrived.
Six others who ate the meal were also hospitalized and are currently receiving treatment. To Luck Good, their condition is reported to be strong without further problems.
The tragedy shocked the community to a great extent and led to an immediate response from county health officials.
Nthiga explained that an emergency team included public health officials and disease monitoring specialists was sent quickly to the affected area.
“Our team arrived in the area and it realized that there were indeed people who were diarrhea. Six people were taken to the Kyri Health Center and admitted. Sadly, a 14 -year -old boy lost his life during this first stage,” he added.
After further investigation, health officials confirmed that the source of the disease was the remaining food from the mother’s celebration.
“Our officials conducted a thorough investigation into the villages. Said Nthiga.
He called on the public to ensure that the remaining food is well heated before being eaten and clean water is used for cooking and drinking.
Bungoma residents are hospitalized
In another tragic incident, ten people including children were admitted to the area of Sirisia, Bungoma County, after eating ants suspected to be poisoned.
Edith Wafula, administrator of the Sirisia County Hospital, reported that patients showed symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and general weakness – signs of toxic food.
Preliminary investigations showed that the affected people bought the ants from one seller in the marketplace.
