Digital content creator Nasra Yusuf has admitted that she once coughed up more than Ksh391,000 for an ex-boyfriend, describing the act as an example of what she now recognises as toxic generosity.

In a post shared through her Instagram stories on Monday, May 12, 2025, Nasra reacted to a viral story making rounds on social media about a woman who had reportedly given her ex-partner Ksh391,000, prompting mixed reactions from both men and women online.

While some men were stunned and many women perplexed, Nasra revealed that she had gone even further in her own past relationship, suggesting that her generosity had once crossed financial boundaries that now seem unreasonable to her in hindsight.

She commented that netizens who were shocked by the woman giving away KSh391,000 would be left speechless if they knew how much she had given, joking that they might even kill her on discovering the full amount.

In her post, she wrote in Swahili, “Hawa wanashtuliwa na 390k? Mimi wakijua zenye nimepeana si wataniua,” a statement which translates to, “They are shocked by 390,000? If they knew how much I have given, they would probably kill me.”

This stark admission was followed by a reflective take on the deeper reasons behind such decisions, as she attributed her financial choices to one’s upbringing and the values instilled early in life.

According to Nasra, it all comes down to how an individual relates to money and the internal blueprint that informs how they give and receive within emotional relationships.

Financial self awareness

The digital creator further opened up about her journey towards financial and emotional self-awareness, stating that she is currently healing from what she described as toxic generosity, a pattern of over-giving that she believes many people, especially women, fall into without realising the consequences.

She concluded her post by encouraging her followers to begin their own journey of financial healing and emotional clarity, noting that the process starts with recognising the unhealthy behaviours one may have normalised over time.

“It all comes down to your relationship with money and the mental script that was passed down to you. I am in the process of healing from my toxic generosity. You can heal yours too, and it all begins with self-awareness.”

Miscarriage

Nasra’s revelation comes just three years after she, along with her hubby Rashid Abdalla, mourned the death of their unborn child.

The entertainers announced the passing on of their little angel through their social media pages on Monday, July 4, 2022.

The lovebirds described the day they lost the unborn baby as the saddest day of their lives.

A devastated Nasra said she was excited about the pregnancy journey, and that she already had a name for the child.

“This picture was taken on the saddest day of my adult life… Losing my little angel before I even met him/her makes it even harder to process,” the comic captioned a photo of her lying in a hospital bed.

“I was way too excited for this journey, I had everything, from the name to the sort of life he/she would have all figured out in my mind…ooh how I wish I just saw your little face my baby but Alhamdulillah (praise be to God)…That is what I said when I first learnt about your coming, and it is what I said when you left may you be the reason I get into paradise main.”

She added: “I am actually very happy that we got to share the news of your coming with our family, friends and fans who all loved you,I hope you felt the love from all of us baby.”

Nasra thanked Director Rashid for being there for her during the difficult moment, promising to love him forever.

“They say everything happens for a reason and I do agree, because, during this difficult process, I got to see what kind of a man I was really married to. This man was broken, I’d never seen him that sad, but still, he chose to be strong for me, comforting me when he also needed to be comforted and going above and beyond to ensure that I got the best treatment.

“His constant reassurance that ‘babe Niko hapa, we will go through this pamoja and tutakuwa sawa pamoja (Babe I am here, we will go through this together and all will be okay)’ meant a lot. Hey babe, I appreciate you more now and I love you more now, and I’ll always choose you above anyone and anything, I always have and I always will Director Rashid.”
