On Friday, May 9, police filed Aroko in Jomo Kenyatta International Court (JKIA) at 3pm, just hours after the Supreme Court ordered Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to present him.
Aroko had been reported to be detained without communication since he was arrested, which raised concerns and legal action from his lawyers.
When they were brought to court, prosecutors revealed that a preliminary investigation recognized Arocho as the main suspect in the recent murder of Kasipul MP Ong’ongo Were.
Was Philip Aroko involved in the murder of Ongo Were?
According to the government, he allegedly made threats to the MP and was financially involved in planning the killings.
“The defendant is directly linked through communication records and financial means for many interested people,” The state attorney told the court. “Evidence shows organized meetings held in Homa Bay, Nairobi, and Nakuruwhich are all part of the planning steps that preceded the death of a legislator. “
Authorities are now analyzing the money transfer alleged to have been established by Arocho, which is believed to be used to fund the crime.
Several key areas where planning meetings were reported to be held still not fully confirmed, and many Witnesses are still being monitored.
The prosecution further informed the court that the deceased had filed a report earlier at the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) in Nairobi, citing threats from Aroko.
They claimed that some Witnesses are now afraid to come out and apply for 30 days to stay in order to provide further investigation and ensure their protection.
In his defense, Arocho strongly opposed the prolonged detention. He said holding him for a month was useless due to his medical needs and family conditions.
“Thirty days are crazy,” He told the court. “I have a family taking medicines that I must get regular, the issue of intervention is in government, I have no plants to interfere with the Witnesses.”
He also requested a replacement for the Rumande area, requesting a detachment at the Kileleshwa police station to remain close to his sick wife.
“I was at the police station of Kasaraniapart from my wife, who is also sick. I pray that I be prevented from a peak where my wife and family are, ” Aroko added.
He requested a restriction for only five days and promised to provide co -operation with investigators.
Chief Magistrate Irene Gichobi acknowledged Arocho voluntarily with her cooperation.
In his decision, he gave the prosecution seven days of work to arrest him, ordering him to be detained at the Kileleshwa police station.
“The complainant presented himself. He has confirmed that he will volunteer. He decided.
