Kalonzo said this is reflected in what he referred to as a one -party and party nomination in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and Ruto.

The Wiper leader spoke short IEBC.

What did Kalonzo say about the recommendations of the IEBC commissioners?

In a Facebook post, Kalonzo criticized the move accusing the President of ignoring consultation rules and being included.

“We are very worried that Ruto chose to rely on one side by ignoring the Consumer Code and reached out in his recommendations of the Chairman and IEBC members. This move has created an unreliable institution,” Kalonzo said.

“As we mentioned in preliminary communications on this issue, it is clear now that the intention is to destroy not only the next election but also the next few elections. A detailed statement will be released by the opposition on Monday, May 12,” he added.

Earlier Kalonzo had expressed concern for Ruto when he received the final list of nominees from the IEBC nomination panel, led by Nelson Makanda.

He emphasized that the process did not meet the expectations set by the National Needy Committee (NADCO), which had called for a bilateral compromise in re -forming the electoral body.

The former vice president claimed that the recruitment process ignored the opposition’s role, thus jeopardizing the creation of a commission that had no freedom and public trust.

He also dismissed the agreement signed between Ruto and the ODM leader Raila Odinga Saying it cannot replace the NADCO system especially since Raila has joined the government and can no longer talk about the opposition.

What follows for the nominees by Ruto in the IEBC?

Seven people recommended to join the Electoral Board include Edung (Chairman), Ann Njeri Nderitu (Nyandarua), Moses Alutalala Mukhwana (Kakamega), Mary Karen Sorobit (Uasin Gishu), Hassan Noor Hassan (Mandera), Francis Odhiambo Aduol (Kisumu), and Fahima Araphat Abdallah.

Their names have been submitted to parliament for debate. If approved, the team will take over the office for a difficult time, with preparations for the 2027 general election are already underway.

In the short term, they will also be expected to oversee sub -elections in the states of Banissa, North Mbeere, Malava, and Kasipul, as well as various county level race.

Baringo County is also preparing for a minority senatorial election following the death of Senator William Cheptumo in February.

IEBC’s long -awaited renewal

The IEBC has been operating without a full commission since January 2023, while Chairman Wafula Chebikati and commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye concluded their term.

The resignation followed the resignation of Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya and Francis Wanderi in 2022, who withdrew despite the internal divisions on dealing with the results of the 2022 presidential election.

The regeneration of the IEBC has remained a political issue, with an increased call for a participatory and transparent process to protect the reliability of future elections.
