During an interview that touched on the ongoing change before the 2027 general election, Kioni revealed new information about Matiang’i and why he believes the former minister is the best leader Kenya needs him.

Kioni is one of the first prominent leaders who have been fighting for Matiang’i William Ruto For UDA party ticket.

The secretary general of the Jubilee party made a statement about Matiang’i’s intention to lead the country, explaining that he is also concerned about the country’s heading.

“We remember, Fred was here sometime last year. During that time, we had several sessions together. We sat with him for different reasons, including our concerns about where this country was heading,” He said.

According to Kioni, the meetings hinted at the possibility of Matiang’i throwing her hat into the presidential ring.

He revealed that Matiang’i expressed interest, but remained careful, choosing to work in consultation with others.

At the time, Matiang’i was forced to leave the country for academic consultations with international institutions, a move that Kioni defended as part of the former minister’s efforts to make a living like any other Kenyan.

What is the support of Matiang’i locally

Despite Matiang’i being overseas, Kioni said his name continued to be strongly blowing with ordinary citizens.

He shared how the former minister’s name gained popularity during a community meeting in Gilgil, where he was dealing with land deportation issues.

“I remember the first time I mentioned his name, it was Gilgil, where I was helping the people who were being fired. I mentioned Matiang’i. We were under a tent with about 100 people. He said.

Kioni mentioned a wave of support for the rural areas of Matiang’i to be organic and unpaid, suggesting that it was a true cry from Kenyans who were disappointed by the current leadership.
