Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested an Indian national with pharmaceutical products in Iten, Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, DCI said that Malik Aman, the person of interest, was released on cash bail as police conduct further tests on the products.

“Anti-narcotics detectives drawn from DCI headquarters have arrested Malik Aman, an Indian national at Iten and recovered assorted pharmaceutical products from his house. The team of hawkshaws who have had the foreign national under their radar raided his house pursuant to a search warrant granted by an Iten court where they thereafter inventorized and carted away the exhibits,” DCI stated.

“The suspect, who had been placed in custody, was released on cash bail, to allow for thorough forensic examination of the said drugs at the government chemist. Meanwhile, the war on sale, distribution and consumption of illicit drugs and any other banned substances continues.”

This comes days after the sleuths nabbed another person of interest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as she was boarding a flight to Goa, India, with drugs.

“Caroline Wanjiku Mwangi, 25, learned the hard way that smuggling drugs is a fast track to jail time, not a holiday in the sun. The aspiring drug mule was nabbed by eagle-eyed Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as she attempted to board a flight to Goa, India. Her travel plans hit turbulence when sharp-sighted detectives flagged her down for a routine check,” DCI stated on May 2, 2025.

“A quick inspection of her luggage led to the discovery of two suspicious smaller bags tucked inside. Upon opening them, detectives found a white powdery substance neatly packed and wrapped in yellow cellotape, definitely not your average souvenir. A spot test confirmed the officers’ suspicions, the results indicated that the powdery substance was Cocaine weighing 1.3 kilograms.”

“Wanjiku is currently cooling her heels at the JKIA Police Station, undergoing processing, awaiting her court appearance. Meanwhile, the seized narcotics are being detained as exhibits. Her trip to Goa just turned into a staycation courtesy of the Anti-Narcotics Detectives.”
