The Kenya Prisons Service emphasised that all official calling letters were issued exclusively to successful candidates on April 30, 2025, at designated recruitment centres across the country.

”PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT Please be informed that fake calling letters are currently circulating among the public, claiming to be part of the recently concluded recruitment process. Important Notice: All official calling letters were issued only to successful candidates at the recruitment centres on 30th April 2025. KAA CHONJO! Do not fall victim to fraud. Do NOT be conned. If you have any doubts, please verify through official channels,” the statement read.

Kenya Prisons recruitment

The Kenya Prisons Service announced the recruitment of prison constables, both men and women, on April 30, 2025.

Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh said candidates must be Kenyan citizens, have a valid National Identity card, have no criminal record, and have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum grade of D+ and above.

“The candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 28 years, be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall for men and 5 feet and 2 inches tall for women, be physically and mentally fit and must have good hearing and clear vision,” he said.

Aranduh noted that the female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during the initial training period.

On recruitment, candidates would undergo paramilitary initial training lasting not less than nine months.

“The recruitment exercise will be absolutely free. Bribery and other acts of corruption are unlawful,” he warned.

“Any person presenting themselves for recruitment with falsified or fake academic/professional certificates or identity cards, or engaging in any acts that amount to corruption, shall be disqualified and prosecuted.”

Roles of KPS officer

The roles of a KPS constable include custody and supervision of inmates, maintaining security and order, and escorting duties either to the court, hospitals or other facilities safely and securely.

A constable is also mandated to assist in rehabilitation programmes such as education, vocational training and religious activities and encouraging good behaviour and discipline among inmates.
