Ex-Bayern Munich and Man United Star Explains Why Benni McCarthy Must Succeed with Harambee Stars

Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has given reasons why Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy should bring success to Kenya.

Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger believes Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy can succeed in his role if he utilises the talent at his disposal.

McCarthy is two months into his two-year contract with Kenya with the country looking up to him to revive their fortunes and former Bayern and Manchester United midfielder Schweinsteiger feels the South African legend can lift the country with the necessary support.

“In Kenya, you have a huge opportunity to get up there and now Benni McCarthy is the head coach so I wish him all the best and I hope that they will work on the things of course,” Schweinsteiger told NTV.

The Kenyan striker looks to have just over two weeks left before he starts looking for a new club as his current team is reportedly not interested in retaining his services.

“Like a youth basement for coaching and all this stuff is very important, but the quality and the talent you have is fantastic. You just need to use it,” added Schweinsteiger, who was in Kenya last week during his UEFA Champions League trophy tour.

Schweinsteiger’s sentiments will ramp up the pressure somewhat on McCarthy, who has backed himself to succeed where others failed, by ensuring Kenya competes and wins titles against the very best on the continent.

McCarthy started his Harambee Stars reign with a 3-3 draw away to The Gambia before losing 2-1 at home to Gabon, both in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.
