Several opposition leaders on Sunday, May 4, 2025, converged at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence to chat a way forward for the country’s political arena.
In a statement after the meeting, Gachagua said that the leaders promised to make big sacrifices for the country beyond personal goals and ambitions for the sake of future generations.
“We will make big sacrifices for this country beyond personal goals and ambitions for the sake of our children. We have spoken in one relentless voice and commitment. Our country must prosper with a great promise to clean our country from the dealers,” Gachagua stated.
“How can a nation so promising like the Kenya we have be frustrated through callousness and carelessness of outdated imperialism? How can we have leaders so deafly fail to listen to the cries and economic pains crushing over 50 Million of us who pay taxes faithfully, work hard to put food on our tables? Yet poor service delivery to the common mwananchi is the order of day? At Wamunyoro Residence today, an appointment with the destiny to get our Nation back to where it belongs has been made.”
The leaders, comprised of leading presidential candidates for 2027 and their close allies, are looking to form a political alliance that will unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.
Among the leaders present were People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP party leader Eugene Wamalwa, former cabinet secretaries Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi and Mithika Linturi, former Agriculture Minister Kipruto arap Kirwa, Governor Mutahi Kahiga, seceral Senators, MPs and MCAs.
“We are uniting all Kenyans under one purpose to reclaim our country back,” Karua stated.
In a statement after the meeting, Kalonzo promised that the leaders would choose their presidential candidate at the right time.
“We have come to Wamunyoro today together with our Chief Guest Mama Martha Karua – Maitu wa Mlima – for a Thanksgiving Service and we give praise to our Almighty God. Our hosts, the Second Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, HE Rigathi Gachagua, and Mama Dorcas have shown Kenyans what it means to stand together as a family under great peril and difficult circumstances,” Kalonzo stated.
“You both have big and forgiving hearts. We honour and salute you. To our fellow Kenyans, especially our youth, our door is not closed. It is wide open. At the right time, we will agree on who will lead us.”
