The tragic incident took place on Sunday, April 27, when Henry Kisiangani jumped into the flooded water of the river Isiukhu in an effort to rescue his friend Francis Mudogo.

But the river, which was full of heavy rain and was walking at danger, turned the incident into a two -person disaster.

For three days of anxiety, rescuers drowned in muddy water, facing fierce currents and heavy debris.

On the evening of Tuesday, April 29, their efforts ended with great sadness: the body of the body was found. However, the search for the small body is still ongoing.

The families of the two men, who are already overwhelmed with sadness, are now facing another terrible challenge: they have no financial ability to continue the evacuation exercise or bury their loved ones with respect.

Speaking on the banks of the river where the rescue operation was underway, one elderly crying made a sad request to the government and donors:

“People who came to help have been walking in the water, they haven’t found anything. This is now the third time, Sunday, Monday, and today on Tuesday. He said bitterly.

Why did the rescue and search exercise take so long in the river Isiukhu?

Families say they are struggling to collect KSh 40,000 owed by divers to continue search activities.

As funeral arrangements continue while the minor body is not yet available, the financial burden is too heavy for those families in mourning.

At the same time, local rescuers who have been leading such efforts have also complained about the lack of essential equipment and support.

They have stated that it is not the first time the river has killed people, and due to heavy rains across western Kenya, they are calling on officials to invest in disaster preparation.

“We have the skills to seek, but we have no equipment. In our Kakamega County, we have a governor, MCAand MP. It is their responsibility to stand with us. They should take care of us, even if it is only for training, ” They said rescuers.
