The former commander of the Defense Forces died on April 18, 2024, after a military pillow he had and 12 others collapsed in Elgeyo Marakwet, killing him and nine other soldiers.

Speaking to TV47 on the anniversary of the death of their child, his parents remembered how generous the general was and how he cared for them until his death.

From his quiet Siaya house, Elder Joel Oketh remembered his son’s good heart and to other family members.

“He liked to take care of people from his heart. He cared for me and others. We haven’t seen much help here since he died,” He said.

His wife, Pascalia Oketch, noted that the family had not received much support since Ogolla’s death, citing the government’s absence since burial.

“Since dying, we have not received much help. We are living in trouble here and there,” he added.

Francis Ogolla’s love through helping people

Ogolla’s sympathy for his family and community was further enlightened by his brother -in -law, who said the late CDF also supported many other members from the community.

“Ogolla was our hope, not only for us as a family, but even to this community, many are crying for paying for a fee, there are many others we did not know that he was helping them, when he died they came and told us.

He also helped many widows. He was a generous man, “ Monalisa Odhiambo, the youngest wife of Ogolla, said.

Many Kenyans sent condolences to Francis Ogolla’s parents, acknowledging that the death of a child was a difficult thing, especially if he was the winner.

Considering Ogolla’s will, which was recently made clear and where he separated almost all of his property from his wife and children, many noted that other family members should help elderly parents to make sure there is no vacuum.

KDF memorial ritual

This comes when Kenyan troops perform a memorial service on April 17, 2025, to celebrate one year since the death of General Ogolla.

During the Memorial, the two rescuers of the Chopa accident, Colonel Kasaine and Koplo Karanja, met again happily.

In a sense of speech, Kasaine noted that surviving the accident is a miracle that does not take it easily, promising to live the truth.

He also thanked his wife for standing with him in difficult times when he was being treated for injuries he suffered in the crash.

“To my saved colleague, Koplo Karanj, who is here, we are carrying scars, visible and invisible. However, we have carried more scars, we carry the responsibility of living and living well,” He said.
