What did the victim of the accident that killed General Ogolla say?
Former security forces, General Francis Ogolla, was among the ten soldiers who died in the crash in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The Ogolla helicopter collapsed after leaving Cheptuel Secondary School. It was the first of the three helicopters ascending.
The military officers were evaluating the security situation in the area before the school was reopened due to insecurity.
The event held at the Moi Airport in Nairobi also celebrated the deaths of Brigadier Swalleh Saidi, Colonel Duncan Keitany, Lieutenant Colonel David Sawe, Major George Magondu, Captain Mohammed Sora, Captain Hillary Litali, Senior Agent John Mureithi, Agent Clipon Olyi.
Colonel Kasaine Ole Kuruta, one of the two rescuers of the accident, spoke during the ritual, contemplating emotional and physical healing.
“There have been 365 days that remind us of the privilege we have to be alive. I have learned to appreciate the time with loved ones.
“I grieve for peace, and I choose to live every day for the memory of those who could not. I am very grateful to the KDF leadership and the medical team who walked with me in my healing,” He said.
The father of Major Magondu spoke on behalf of the bereaved families, thanking the help the families received.

The Chief of Defense Forces, General Charles Causer, said it was a day of meditation and memorial, recognizing the service and dedication to the deceased.

Who else survived the Ogolla Chopper crash?
Studies revealed that the engine error caused the helicopter accident. Studies showed that the plane was undergoing regular repairs and inspections and flew by qualified staff.
Apart from Colonel Kasaine, Karanja Mogire, the photographer, also survived the crash.
