Ochieng Ogodo: A reporter died shortly after watching a match between Arsenal and Real Madrid

The Kenyan media community mourns the loss of one of its right -minded people, Ben Ochieng Ogodo, a prominent science journalist and editor, who passed away early on Thursday, April 17.

According to reports from his family, Ogodo was feeling a little bad in the recent days, associating those symptoms with severe fever.

However, his closest people said he was happy on Wednesday evening, April 16, collaborating with friends online as he followed the quarter -finals of UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Between Arsenal and Real Madrid.

However, at eight o’clock in the morning, while resting at his home in Nairobi, Ogodo suffered sudden and chest pain. He quickly cautioned his missing children called a passenger car and rushed him to Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital.

Despite their immediate action, he was announced to die when he arrived at the center’s emergency unit.

In a heavy message, Kenya’s Editorial Association (KEG) President Zubeida Kananu expressed deep sadness at Ogodo’s death.

“We at the Kenyan editorial party are deeply saddened by the death of Ochieng ‘Ogodo, a long -time member of our community and one of the media and editorials of science in Kenya,” Kananu said.

He praised his desire to simplify complex education, especially science, environment, and development, so that it could be understood by the daily audience.

“As the coordinator and editor of the sub -Saharan Africa region in scidev.net for over 12 years, Ogodo played a major role in creating science journalism across the continent,” he added.

His work reached international platforms including National Geographic, Nature Medicine, The Guardian (UK), British Medical Journal, and locally via The Standard Media Group.

His legacy is more prevalent in writing – he was the founding chairman of the Kenya Environmental and Scientific Association (Kensja) and served for 15 years on the Federal Board of Sciences World Sciences.

In 2008, he was awarded the Reuters-IUCN Media award for quality reporting.

His colleagues remembered Ogodo not only for his enthusiastic journalism and his editorial skills but also for his generous heart.

“He advised many young journalists and was ready to support others quietly but occasionally,” Keg noted in his statement.

Ogodo graduated with a Master’s degree in telecommunications and media studies from the University of Nairobi.

Ogodo’s death follows a series of losses in the Kenyan media.

List of Kenyan journalists who died in recent weeks

The tragedy happened again on Wednesday, April 9, when Silas Apollo, a former journalist for NTVwhen he was hit by a fast -moving motorcycle as he crossed Kiambu Road. He suffered serious injuries and was first taken to St. Teresa before being transferred to Kiambu Level 6 Hospital, where she died later.
