Rigathi Gachagua suggests forming a union with Fred Matiang’i to face Ruto

The opposition seems to be preparing to return to politically while there are plans for a major coalition that prepares to fight the President William Ruto In the 2027 general elections that are fiercely competitive.

Will Gachagua join Matiang’i?

This is after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suggested plans to form a coalition with former Internal Security Minister Fred Matiang’i ahead of the next election.

Speaking at Pasta’s funeral Joseph Nzola in Machakos on Tuesday, April 15, Gachagua said the coalition would also involve other senior opposition leaders, including Wiper party leader Kalonzo MusyokaDemocratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

“We aim to establish a new government to help our country. We do this with your leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene WamalwaGeorge Natembeya, and Fred Matiang’i. I, Riggy G, will work behind the curtain, helping to make important decisions. I want to assure you Kenyan people that we have a formula to give them good leadership, “Gachagua said.

He has also assured Kenyans that opposition has developed strategies to ensure the country is well -controlled.

The former deputy president said their decision to unite was after listening to the wishes of the people and ensuring the current head of state did not go to the second term.

Gachagua added that there were efforts to disperse the opposition but insisted that they would remain united.

He also said that all opposition political leaders would meet in December 2026 to elect their candlestick who would oppose Ruto in the presidential election.

“If we advertise it now it can endanger us. But I want to assure the residents of Ukraine that we as leaders are patriotic and we will do what is right. We will set aside our selfish interests for the benefit of the country’s greatest people,” he added.

Was Fred Matiang’i warned against working with the Jubilee?

In a statement related to it, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called on Matiang’i to renew his political view before the 2027 elections.

In a message on Twitter published on Tuesday, April 15, Amisi advised Matiang’i against running under the President’s Jubilee party Uhuru Kenyatta.

The ODM MP said although Matiang’i had a good record in the independence administration, he should find a new political way.

Amisi argued that the Jubilee ticket would undermine any difference between Matiang’i and President William Ruto, adding that Kenyans are looking for a new political process and not the leadership.
