The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to be the official guest at the awards ceremony, popularly known as Samia Pun Awards.
These awards aim to encourage development journalism by conducting extensive analysis and research, increasing local content, focusing on professionalism, values, professional accountability, promoting patriotism and creating a positive image of the country.
Speaking to reporters about the incident, which is expected to take place on April 29, 2025 in Dodoma, organized by the Tanzania Women’s Journalists Association (TAMWA) in collaboration with the Tanzania Communications Authority (TCRA), TAMWA CEO, Dr Rose Reuben, said a total of 79 winners would be awarded.
He said the beneficiaries of the awards are journalists, online content publishers, news officers, broadcasters and the media in general.
Dr. Reuben has stated that the awards are divided into three main categories: special national awards, media awards, and sector awards.
“The first group will include special national awards that include the national media award, the award for the media, the award of the government’s best Information Officer, the national journalist award and the award for journalism use of clean energy for cooking”
“The second group includes awards for the media which is television awards, online, radio and newspapers and the third sector awards are presented to specialists to write development articles in various sectors, said Dr Ruuben.
In addition, he has called on journalists and the media to be actively involved in promoting the historic event, which provides an opportunity for journalists to show their contribution to the community and the nation as a whole
