Nairobi – An elderly passenger died while aboard a plane of the airline Kenya Airways From New York to Nairobi after receiving a health emergency in the air.

The incident took place on Friday, April 11, 2025, inside the Kenya Airport KQ 003, from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

According to a statement from the Kenya Airlines (KQ), the passenger fell into the center of the plane, resulting in a quick response from cabin staff and medical professionals.
KQ reported that the staff had initiated emergency procedures using local medical equipment to save his life.
“At 0840 at Nairobi Time, staff notified the Kenyan Airport Control Station that the passenger had fallen. The airline said in a statement.
Why did the Kenyan Airways flight to Uganda
In an effort to seek emergency treatment and save the life of the passenger, the plane was directed to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in the country Uganda.

Despite the recovery efforts, the passenger was announced to die at 0910 in East Africa (EAT), before the plane landed.
“In a sad state, despite sustainable efforts to revive him, the passenger was confirmed that he had died before the plane landed,” KQ reported.
Following the confirmation of the death, and in accordance with the international guidelines for air safety and operation, the flight headed to its original Nairobi area, where it landed at 10:27 AM in Nairobi.
The plane met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with medical staff, airport safety, and relevant authorities.
The Kenya Airways airline confirmed that it is working closely with the family of the deceased, air travel regulators and local authorities to control the outcome and provide assistance.
“The airline sends its condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this sad event. Privacy and personality for all involved remain our highest priority,” KQ added.
How did Kenya Airways address customer complaints
Elsewhere, the Kenya Airways airline addressed issues raised by passenger Irene Kibor about her recent travel experience.
Kibor, who arrived at the airport with a wheelchair, claimed that the airline had chosen him in need of additional medical permit from a doctor appointed by KQ before allowing him to climb.
He expressed frustration at what he considered to be writing a profile based on his wheelchair use.
In response, the Kenya Airways airline issued a statement explaining that their procedures are in line with international aviation levels.
